Mobile devices have been a thorn in my side this year, two new mobiles within four months is a little ridiculous no matter which way you look at it.
Mobile one took a three meter dive off the balcony and following a throaty splat, ended in a big pile of glass and plastic. Sadly no amount of love could bring it back to life and all our precious photos within were lost. And after careful consideration, Giulia's Galaxy S5 was replaced with the mighty Huawei P9.
In the other hand was mobile number two, and it had trouble getting out of bed every time the ambient temperature fell below 5DegC. Not really an issue while living in New Zealand, but in Italy temperatures sink far below 5DegC for at least 3 months of the year. Apparently a known issue for recent iPhone models (a shame it was not addressed). Not willing to gamble on the iPhone 7, I followed suite and also rolled on with the Huawei P9. At this stage, the P9 was already far exceeding my expectations (having used Giulia's copy for a few weeks before making the switch myself).
Android has made leaps and bounds in the performance department since I last swam in its pool. And I am willing to go out on a limb and say, it is easily as fluid as iOS with the added bonus of complete media freedom.
With 32GB of internal memory for applications and all non essential data, I decided to use the bundled 128GB SD-Card for all other media. Because an SD-Card is far less likely to be critically damaged and easy accessed when the unthinkable happens. I can now rest easy knowing both our mobile made memories are safe (with the addition of both devices now included in a multiple redundancy backup workflow).
If I have not lost you yet, at this point you are probably wondering why the P9. There are many other mobile devices with similar specifications for far less money, so why did we both opt for the flagship Huawei. The dual built in Leica optic cameras of course! The stunning quality of the attached images will write the rest of the post all on their own.
