Frustrated!!

In case the image I chose to portray my feeling towards last week does not kick your imagination into gear, let me start by putting a few words to paper....

A rather frustrating week for me full of late nights and disappointment........

A rather frustrating week for me full of late nights and disappointment........

Three weeks ago I came up with a new theme and idea for what I thought would be a pretty funky community project. Clearly I was not the only one who thought so, we had over 1000 casting call views (25 applicants) and the limited number of photographers we could cater for filled up within two hours of the event release. With the studio organised, makeup artist and costumes all lined up it just came down to the final model selections.

You would think that all the applying models for a photoshoot would have at least had the decency to check the date and time for the shoot..... I mean, is that not something you do when you check your availability? APPARENTLY NOT!! It is apparently unreasonable to think that the people who apply will actually be available on the day you require them. How is this sort of behavior in any way acceptable? I know and appreciate there will always be hurdles which come up, mostly we are super accommodating and understanding. But this time I felt really let down. For this shoot, out of the 10 models I chose only 1.5 of them actually came through.

I won't go into the lame and pathetic excuses which get thrown about or I might actually explode.  I spent many late nights fighting with trying to make something work and in the end had to can our project from lack of commitment. A real shame.....

We regularly cast models for our photography projects and run into this issue almost weekly. What has the industry come to? How am I suppose to make accurate judgement calls on the talent when their applications are not even serious..... I am not impressed!! All I can say is this, when you find models who come through for your projects, are on time and act professionally in all aspects of the process these are the KEEPERS. You know who you are and go on my "GOTO" list..... These are the people that keep getting re-cast for more roles..... You scratch my back and I yours, as they say....

Maybe this is one of those times where I should wait before hitting the publish button and reread what I wrote tomorrow in case my rant is a little unjust.....

Nope..... I think it is fine and it's time someone speaks out at the ridiculous behavior I am hearing is a "common occurrence" in the industry......

P.S sorry I have written a lot of posts over the past week, I got struck down by some horrible FLU like disease.....
