If the project result is mediocre, preaching of the costs and challenges you carried valiantly to the finish line do not qualify you for praise. Content quality is king, and if you set the bar high, a respectful and engaged audience will organically develop without the pity plea.
Based on personal experience, some of my best work has been created on a shoe string budget with creative problem solving overcoming the financial barriers keeping the easy solutions out of reach. And if the final result inspires and delivers an emotional connection with the audience, the struggle is never the crux of the conversation. The need to justify the result is a sign of insecurity and arises out of desperation when the project fell short of expectation.
Endured physical turmoil, financial and time investments are all worthless struggles if the work does not lead the conversation. There is no shame in walking away empty handed, and often you will fail, if it was that easy, the challenge would not be the catalyst for growth or the work worth invoicing for.
Surpass mediocrity and stand by your quality mark as a professional, no matter the pursuit.
